After what the guy managed to achieve I wonder why his books are not in english.

There is not many reason to have his books in english, I have Villmarksboka or Vildmarksboken as it´s called in swedish and it´s mor or less all about the swedish an norweigan fjell. I have also looked through som of his earlier books and they were also really good.

There are lot of people like him who has written books or doing lectures or similar that are more genuine and not so famous. People like Roger Isberg, Torwald Wemelin and Håkan Strotz that has even worked as a trapper and fisherm an in both Canada and Russia. Less famous people but they live the life so many of us only dream of. But they don´t write many books oor do tv-shows becasue they are not interested in the money and that is why we will probably never see their books or hear their stories in english.

I don't think it is problematic to make money on books, if you have tested it yourself. There are many survival books out there where it is obvious that the writer is simply a writer and has never tested it themselves. Although the people you mention may have achieved greater things, the fact that they are poor writers may be the reason to why the don't publish any books. People who excel in their area should publish books, and help distributing and preserving the skills such extrordinary people possess.

And about genuinity, I can not name anyone else that has travelled the "old" way across Canada.

Lars Monsen is on of these guys, love to read his book Villdmarksboken lots of his own opinions in that book on what he think of the world. The latest thing I heard about him is that he moved to Sweden =)

If I should put my finger on anything about him. He cares about nature, but dogsledding is very much unsustainable. It's like feeding about two packs of wolves for your own pleasure. There is a reason why indians and eskimos rarely kept more than one or two dogs before they got guns: They will eat you out of the house!

He should keep a few reindeer instead. :) I want some for myself, hmm. Have to check what permissions that are needed.

Sorry about that. :) :offtopic:

I think he sounds like a great guy, probably not the most social person but as you say a big love for nature.

But if you get reindeers you might have to shoot a wolf, an I guess you have heard what happened with the guy who shot the wolf wich killed his sheeps.

I think I rather buy a new reindeer. :D And when keeping only a few reindeer you probably kan keep them quite close to you most of the time.

I'm sure someone on this forum must know something about publishing.

It should not be too difficult to publish an english translation of what looks to be a remarkable and interesting story.

Must admit, I'd never heard of him either! Not sure about sledding all the way across Canada? Can that be done, arent there mountains and rivers to cross?

He did it already in 10 month time. Made a movie too about it, I saw some cuts of it here in the TV. If I am not mistaken then he has his own publishing company.
Maybe it is too expensive for him to print a english version of his books.
Anyhow the guy is amazing, I only wonder how some people do nearly nothing and sell very very well. While that guy nearly lives all they time alone in the bush and is only published in norwegian and a little in swedish. Well, anyhow be it as it is. I thought you guys would enjoy to get news about some cool bushcrafters known or unknown.

cheers

This is true. Our neighbor has sled dogs. It is amazing how much they eat. When he won a big race last year - he said it paid for half the dog food bills for the year.

I've thought it would be nice to have sled dogs, but the cost and time is too much.
