Obvously, the longer it is, the better it is. But always make sure its secured in some way... peened over at the end or a pin through wood and tang.

Should be ok :)

Not the best, but with a pin through it, and some good solid wood, it should be good for most stuff, probably wouldn't want to do much battoning with it though :)

Pins are not necessary at all.

The tang should be as long as you can have it but dont fight to make it a certain length. When you try and remove a handle you find out how a well glued handle is very difficult to remove.

This is my Scout troops wood splitter 9 inch blade 2 inch tang not well looked after and doing fine.
