Kent Group March Day Out

Today was the BCUK Kent Group's first outing. We decided to start small with a day trip to the woods to get to know each other and have a bit of a kit shakedown.

The venue was an area of woodland near Canterbury. Seven of us made it out (and 7 made it back too!), a good mix of experience levels within the group, from complete beginners to those with experience under their belt.

Upon finding a quiet area away from the dog walkers, we threw up various tarps, a poncho, and a hammock. There was a nice skills exchange between the members on things such as knots and how to fold up a tarp. We had a good hunt around of the local flora, and evidence of the local fauna. Several Brews were had, biscuits were shared round.

Beautiful woodland, and glorious weather, lead to a good time had by all.

All sounds very pleasant.

Was it on public access land? My sense is that what youve described is unlikely to attract adverse attention as long as 'the authorities' dont believe your overnight camping or starting raging fires.

Days out, putting up a shelter, enjoying the countryside should be something we can all do without let or hinderance.

Have to agree it was a nice day out, time to try new things and learn from the more experienced.
The weather here in Kent was also good making the day even more enjoyable.

A very enjoyable day out, bright sunshine and long awaited signs of spring.
It was good to learn new tips and id plants and trees with everyone.

Yes it was public access land, we just kept away from the footpaths so we could relax and have a brew etc without dog walkers falling over us.
