Ball of "hairy string" from the garden centre mate if you want to try jute fibre for firelighting etc. Makes a lovely dual purpose pocket item :D

or buy a roll of hessian from any builders merchant.At this time of year its used by Bricklayers to protect brickwork from frost damage,so any building site that is laying bricks is a good bet.It usually gets skipped after use,so if you ask nicely..
