My son and I volunteered to help a veterinarian friend to a remote region of Southern Costa Rica along the Pacific. It's about 6 hours south of our home and there is no other vet within an hour's travel. In 2 days we saw 27 dogs and cats that needed either treatment or to be spayed. The big bonus was we got to stay at the beach and I spent the nights in my hammock listening to the ocean. Mornings with coffee from the Kelly Kettle were pretty good too

given the number of street dogs and dogs living in places with limited income it's sadly a necessity to get them fixed :-( (a friend of mine is involved in a similar project with a local vet and has picked up quite a few street dogs to give them care and a new home. one of them happens to guard my blanket as i'm typing and answers to "Biscuit" )
