Does anyone keep the number of a local wildlife rescue organisation on their phone?

Last night I found a Barn Owl on the side of the road looking a bit miserable and tucked up. It didn't put up too much of a fight when I tried to catch it (apart from puncturing a hole in my finger) so I decided I couldn't leave him there and had to find someone to take him which wasn't going to be easy at that time of night. Luckily a friend works for a local vets and after a call to them they found a guy from City Wildlife Care in Newport who could meet me to take the bird into care. It looked a bit dodgy trading rare birds in a carpark late at night mind.

It got me thinking though that having a contact number to hand for stuff like this would be useful for a lot of people. Especially if you're not a fan of the RSPCA...

I'm waiting for a call today to let me know how it's getting on but they've said I can be there if they can release it which will be great. Fingers crossed for him anyway.

I'd just look one up on my phone I think, or phone someone who could look one up if the interweb on the phone was playing up, again.

Will they be letting you know how the owl is getting on?

We have a 24hr vets down the road which I've rung in the past when I've come across injured critters.

Good on you for doing a good deed Dave, hope it makes a full recovery.

This is the no. for Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Trust Scotland...01505502415.

Based near Beith Ayrshire, cover almost all over and have couriers or can give advice and other tele numbers.

I courier at times for them, rely completely on charity and do a damn fine job.

Tom.

I tend to leave wildlife alone unless there's a very good reason (being hungry is a very good reason). Nature is tougher than a lot of people think, and there is a lot of damage done by well-meaning members of the public.

Yeah we were torn about taking it away but in the state it was in on the side of the road there was little choice.

Sadly this owl didn't make it. The vet suspects it had some internal injuries and though it seemed alert and ok when they inspected it, it slipped away during the night. :(

The number I called is as below if anyone wants it.

City Wildlife Care (Newport, South Wales) 24 hr number 07794 179 207
