Hi guys n gals

I was wondering if anyone who may own a business in the Yorkshire counties may have a vacancy that I could fill for them.
I would love to work in an area of crafting, turning, preparing raw timber, or surveying and conservation.
I like to think my carpentry skills are very reasonable, I have some of my own tools and have even more enthusiasm to learn new skills, not just in crafting but in all areas of nature. I spend all my spare time either in the woods surrounded by nature, as an FC Volunteer Ranger, or I have my head buried in a book on something to do with nature.
Commitment and loyalty are my main strengths, along with a passion for all things natural. I want to move towards a more holistic and self empowering way of life, where I can provide for myself and my family in a more basic way, through knowledge and skills that are being lost.

Could anyone possibly help? I am only after a minimum wage and have my own transport. Basically, I would like some one to give me a chance I want so much.

All the best

Mike

Thats on my daily check list shewie, aswell as country jobs weekly.

Im just getting so frustrated now, funding has dried up for so many local warden and ranger jobs aswell as funding for local volunteering diploma courses. With the new leaders in power, all civil recruitment has been frozen until 2011 to top it off!

Just gonna have to keep ploding away and try to get funds for an nvq3 that i have seen.

Thanks guys

That's interesting Mike, I'm in full time employment in the IT sector but always looking to get out, my grand plan was to go full time voluntary until I can get a foot in the door so to speak. Maybe that's not an option anymore

I was sort of forced into that route through being laid off and it was the way in for a long time, kind of serving your time and getting known. But now you have to have some kind of quals to compete with university leavers who jumped into a uni and now have to justify the 2/3 years they have just done. Its the time of year aswell for them to find summer jobs. Come the cold dark winter months though, its a different story.
I am not saying that this is what all students do, i would like to add

i have well over 150 hours logged now and they numbers are growing fast weekly, its just not enough anymore

It's a shame you're in Yorkshire, as there is a temp post coming up, here at Chopwell, for cover for maternity leave/sickness. It'll probably be at least 6 months, possibly even 12, as the last time, our resident ranger had a bit of a rough time during her pregnancy.

If you're interested, try contacting Alex MacLennan or Richard Gilchrist, at Kielder District Forestry Commission.

That would have been a great one to go for! Its just a wee bit past the daily commute distance at 175 miles.
Thanks for letting me know though

Shewie, I reckon volunteering is definitely still an option. Jumping in with both feet may be a bit risky though. I bet there are third sector organisation near you who would die for a volunteer with IT accumen. In return you could get the trainging you want...

Leaf man, I would suggest preparing to apply NOW for positions vacant in 2011.

i already am locum, soon as i raise 300quid for the nvq i want then it will solve alot of my qualification problems. experience i have, but not the tick in quals box.

definately do not jump in blind and with both feet. shewie i could certainly sort you some contacts out if you want

Hi leaf man like others have said getting into this type of work is not easy, I am( mature student ) just finishing my first year of a National Diploma in countryside management habitat conservation this is a full time course I am also volunteering with the national trust. At the moment thought there is not much paid work about. I wish you well

You would think so wouldn't you Rob, but seriously I've been on the look out for the last couple of years now and IT and outdoor work don't seem to cross paths very often. I'll figure something out though soon enough, even if I try and learn a trade and work for myself I get my play time one way or another :)

I have to say that is the good thing about the course I am doing at the moment there is a good raft of NPTC add quals

Are there any timber framers or restoration tradesmen on here that are currently operating in yorkshire? i will soon have 2 days a week to work for some one for free in return for some training.
