My wife and I have put out lots of food for the birds in our garden, and are keeping it topped up during the snow. We appear to be the only people doing this locally, as all of the birds are gathering around us, and the resident blackbirds are spending a lot of time defending their patch.
Anyway, I was watching out of the window just now, when I spotted a Blackcap wrestling with some dried fruit that we had put out, trying to separate one of several sultanas that had stuck together. I understood Blackcaps to be summer visitors, so it was a surprise to me, although my book say they can be occasional winter visitors.
Anyone else had unusual wildlife in their garden due to the cold weather?
