I've just bought my first knife kit (karesuando with sheath and fire steel holder), and I would like to put some kind of liner between the brass bolster / antler and then the antler / curly birch. I was thinking about buying some leather remnants in a similar shade to the sheath. Is there any leather I shouldn't use?

I've seen some 1mm thick leather on ebay thats quite cheap. I thought a few layers of this might do the trick.

Thanks,

Craig.

as I understand it, you want veg-tanned leather (tooling leather)
chrome tanned and some of the other types may contain chemicals that can dammage the knife. or atleast it can if it's used as a sheath......

I have used the leather of and old desert boot and it worked fine
By the time you have done all the pressing and stuff you wouldn't know where it had come from
From experience and probably rather obviously the thicker the leather pieces the easier and tbh more traditional looking the job
If its just a thin layer however it wont matter so much or take so long
For such a small amount I wouldn't be looking to spend much money

Its all good fun
