I have an entertaining BBC documentary entitled 'Pussies Galore' which features Sir David Attenborough narrating the tale of a year in the life of a colony of cats living amongst the ruins of the Forum in Rome.

Sir David suggests that the Romans originally imported cats from Egypt to help curb the vermin in their rapidly expanding city, so I suppose that its always possible that they brought some cats with them when they arrived in Britain.

Dont forget catgut thread!

Do you mean like violin strings, "catguts"? They weren't actually made from cat guts, it is thought to be either short for "cattlegut", a derivation of "kitgut" or named to make people think they were cat guts; the superstitious believed it was bad luck to kill a cat, and so wouldn't use their strings even if they produced a superior sound, allowing stringmakers and Musicians to have a monopoly over "their" sound. :) Thank you QI ;)

sandbender - That was awesome :D
