The problem with that is older people seem to be more trusting of the government and will feel they have to get it.
No we bloody well are not, I don't trust them one bit, they have been caught lying often enough. Living next to the lying imperium might also have something to do with it. It is somewhat fascinating how they every now and then happen to tell the truth apparently by accident.

I have faraday covers on all of my cards and have my phone on paranoid settings.

Now that is interesting. I find the on line medical applications extremely simple and effective and I am very close to your parents age bracket.
The app I am talking about is from this source:

Regardless of whether my parents turned off learning, which might have been a fair comment 15-20 years ago, I find that particular one a royal PITA to use on their behalf when visiting.

I use the NHS app.
It does require some photo ID to set it up but once that was done (years ago) it’s dead simple.

We old folk are Just as irritated/angry about the ineptitude of our governments at all levels.
Perhaps, over the years we have come to realise that exactly the same ineptitude prevents the idiots from effectively implementing the various worst case scenarios that some people here are predicting.

The (then) inland revenue failed to implement an all enveloping system in the early years of the millennium.
The NHS abandoned its attempt at an integrated system a decade later at enormous cost.
As for the blond idiot’s “World beating Test and Trace” system…… Just one of so many failures.

Maybe big brother will take over, maybe overall surveillance can happen but given their track record it won’t be any of the various shades of current governments. It’s much more likely to be a commercial enterprise owned by a monomaniac who is immune to or dismissive of any democratic system.

Am I right in thinking that those of you who use social media such as face book have given over a lot of traceable information already? Vera always seems to be telling people to “check his socials (sic)”.

You might want to re-block out your NHS number... it's still visible.

I keep hearing this arguement, and understand where it comes from- yes a lot of use use social media, yes a lot of us carry smartphones everywhere, yes the government and corporations already have loads of data stored on various systems.

But I still don't see that as a reason to give in and accept any more intrusion. I'll still make it as hard as possible to have any more forced on me, even if I have to accept some.

Those of us who don't use social media are tracked by social media companies and ad providers. Even if you don't use Facebook, you have a Facebook profile of sorts.

Anyone you know use Facebook on their phone? Chances are at least one of them has allowed Facebook access to their contacts so that they could 'easily find friends'. They just gave Facebook your name, phone number, email address and whatever else they had stored in your contact details. Facebook will buy data from other ad providers (all those cookies you allow on various websites which include your digital 'fingerprint') and ad providers will buy data from Facebook, meaning they can link up all this data into one big package of all your data that you never knowingly gave them. They'll know what websites you visit, how often, what your browsing behaviour is, what you interact with, what sort of things you might be receptive to in adverts and all sorts. Ever see those little 'Share on Facebook' or the various other Facebook icons on websites? That isn't just a button, it's also script which is taking your digital fingerprint and sending it back to Facebook, telling them you were on that page at that time.

There is some data they don't have access to though, such as things like NHS number, prescription history, tax details and various other (currently) government data which it's quite naughty for them to handle and carries big trouble if they're caught with it. Will this still be the case when we auction the new government ID contract out to the lowest bidder, likely based in the US? It will have been perfectly legitimately handed over to them at that point, so they can sleep soundly knowing they have all your details well within the law.
