Folks,
For those of you who aren't aware, the Iditarod dog sled race kicks off this weekend. 1,150 miles from Anchorage to Nome across some of the toughest wilderness on earth, with minimal support or safety available for the mushers (although there are extraordinary safety measures to protect the dogs).
If you're not into sledding, it's still worth following just for the bushy experiences as mushers are forced to deal with some very difficult situations. At the recent Yukon Quest race, sled after sled ploughed into 3ft deep 'overflow' where a river had broken through its own ice, and snow had fallen on top, creating a sub-zero slush puppy on top. Scary stuff. And much more fun than watching Formula 1
