The video is pretty self explanatory. I used the back of the saw blade, before anyone screams at me! :D I find that the saw on a Leathermans has a really good sharp 90 degree corner to get a good spark. Give it a try, but remember the candle has to be pre burned to make life easier to light it.

That was a basic wax candle. It works with a tea light just as well. Pre-light the candle and let it burn for a few seconds before extinguishing. Then tease the fibres of the wick out. You may end up pulling wax off of the fibres. That is fine, in fact it is prefferable as the fibres light up and bur, which melts the wax on the candle which then wicks up and burns in short order. This candle is from my response pak survival tin and sits in there waiting for a disaster to occur, so it is quite old. I remember a while back somebody asked about this, so I thought I'd quickly show how it works. If you have success, try to video capture it and put it up as well. It works with feather sticks as well.

It works with feather sticks as well.

I sharpened my mora last week and made some very fine feathers, at the same time I squared off an area on the spine and it made some huge sparks so I tried lighting the feather stick and it worked! I was well chuffed with myself and started to try again and caught my finger:eek: , it is definetly true that a cut with a sharp knife heals faster!

Yes, hairy legs and 3000 degree Celcius sparks are probably not a good combination, and if the flames go North......

Then only do it when you're on the other side of the equator :nana:

Nice trick Spam! Read about a few years ago in an old post by Gary - but seeing it on a video, makes it more imaginable - and shows it really does work!
Guess what all bushcrafters are going to do now Christmas is coming up :D ;)

Indeed it works. Just did this with a tea light. I had a tea light in my survival kit - this is now pre-burned for lighting like this. Thanks for the tip.
