A kilo for a kid's sack at 38l? Hmmm! Better something like this...

https://theomm.com/product/ultra-20/

Or there's even smaller 11 litre for very young kids.

Imho there's no point for large, heavy packs with all the bells and whistles for kids. Imho osprey hit the UK market claiming to be lightweight. They were light compared to traditional backpacking sacks available in the UK back then at the time. Local brands added superfluous features increasing weight without purpose. Now it seems osprey is doing that.

A few points I have as recommendation for kids sacks depends on age. Young kids I'd say smaller and lighter sacks are better such as running sacks. As they get older you can increase volume bit by bit. But fit is always important. Back length when younger might rule out some sacks.

That is exactly what I think, if I look at that list.

This Decathlon 10 litres rucksack weights only 48g.

That Decathlon 20 litres rucksack weights only 97 grams, and it is water proof. I asked them how much I could load in it, they answered me officially on their home page "up to 10 kg". So they trust it.

I think about, if all that expert special children hiking rucksacks are simply bullshit. And if it wouldn't be the best option to choose the lightest possible rucksack and to fill it with ultralight equipment.

I have seen a thread about them but didn't find them in Germany.

They seem pretty good.

There are two different versions, if I am right, with thin and larger carrying straps.

A couple of days ago I came along a few French boy scouts.

Some of them were using the old lttle French army rucksack F1.

It fits obviously well to the back of 10 to 12 years old children and it is relatively light and very handy with its 4 large outer pockets.
