It was a lovely day on Saturday so I thought I'd head up to Lewesdon Hill - it's the site of an Iron-age fort, one of many in the area.
This is somewhere I spent a lot of time as a kid and it's a place I hold very dear. It mainly consists of beech trees and is always stunning in autumn.
This is the view along the ridgeway heading up to the trees.
Looking south towards the coast.
A view of Pilsdon hill - the second highest point and also the site of an Iron-age fort.
Just after taking this photo 2 roe deer walked across the path behind me.
I love this terrain, lots of cover for wildlife.
Top ridge amongst the trees.
The plateau at the top.
The gap in the tree canopy here was created during WW2 when a Belgian pilot crashed. Not very clear but the tops of the younger trees can be seen coming up amongst the older ones.
Nice water source flowing from the base of these tree roots.
An ancient track. One can only imagine the amount of activity this has seen over the years.
