Just read this very sad news on the BBC.

Former Mastermind host Magnus Magnusson has died, aged 77.

From the BBC site, "Magnusson, who had been suffering from cancer, was best known for hosting the quiz show and for coining the catchphrase "I've started so I'll finish". First recorded in 1972, the show became known for its distinctive theme music and intimidating black leather contestant's chair."

My thought are with his family and friends.

I remember him doing a very interesting programme about Iceland years ago (must have been about 1980 or so) and telling some of the folklore, it was excellent stuff.

One particular story was about a chap who was under siege in his home, keeping the attackers at bay with his bow till his string snapped.
He asked his wife if he could cut her hair to make a new string to which she replied NO because he had once slapped her.

He never mentioned if the attackers butchered them both or just the bloke though.

Just him I think. IIRC it was either Grettirs Saga or the Saga of Burnt Njal. Both very good reads.

Rest well in Hellas Hall Magnus
