I wasn't going to mention it, but I washed my pegs after last Fridays camping.

I don't get bends though. I bought some titanium ones from Alpkit. Pricy but really light and strong. So I don't leave them behind I've attached a ball of Sugru to a loop of cord through the ends. The ball makes it really easy to pull them out too, plus, for real gadgety goodness, I rolled each Sugru ball in glow in the dark powder so I don't trip over my guylines.

My back packing pegs are Macpac ally T sections which are really hard to bend...but they still do on ocasion.... they also collect loads of soil in the channels hence why they get washed and dried when I get home along wiht the muddy peg pag

I do the same with the bell tent pegs which are a combination of some L section monkey metal ones that bend if you look at them and the rest steel wire. I am waiting for a quiet afternoon to happen so I can spend it on the shave horse and make some nice wooden ones for it

Any chance you could post a wee piccy of a peg Rich? I'm intrigued by the Sugru ball etc!

Maybe OCD was a bit strong, thought you meant you took the metal polish to them after use. I agree a bag full of mud is silly, but my pegs merely get a wipe down with a rag, bit of kitchen towel or my bare hand. O dare say you need to go to the extra length to get the mud out if grooved pegs.
Nice 65 - I'd be interested to see that peg set up as well.

Back to the thread at hand, I tried the toothpaste on the baked on door on my steel Billy that I wasn't able to scrape off with a plastic card. It did all go a nice grey colour do must of been lifting some of it, but for all intensive purposes, it was as black as when I started. Funnily enough it's the top half that has remained black. On the plus side it did remove some rust spots on the inside very well - not bad for 29p toothpaste.

i clean my pegs to and i bend them back to there original shape

I do this as well.
Certain soils are acidic and I don't fancy it eating through my gear, (Tent peg bag not the pegs)

And after all I want my kit clean, and in the best working condition, the thought of my gear being left for any period of time covered in mud and or soot disgusts me.

I have a clean home and treat all my possessions with the same respect.
