I am trying to find a good quality strong, rot resistant thread (olive green preference) to repair my outdoor gear like DD tarp/bivi bag/basha/rucksack etc.

But I don't have a clue of what sort of thread to look for or where the best place to buy such stuff is?

thanks in advance

I'm not sure exactly what sort of area you are talking about. I carry Duc Tape for field repairs of this sort. I always have some stripped off a roll and wrapped around a piece of card for this general purpose in my pack.

Long term repairs, well it really depends on what you want to achieve. The problem with joining something that is supposed to be waterproof by stitching is that it is going to leak. You will always have to tape it underside somehow to form a watertight seal.

I suggest looking at Iron on patching materials or hot glue guns using the same fabric.

I'm thinking about sewing where there is webbing stiched to the tarp material or things like straps on rucksacks that get torn etc.

for waterproof areas like the the silnylon on tarps I use Mcnett seam grip.
