Hello all! I’m fairly new around here and just wanted to say hi. I’ve been reading up on tent construction in some of the discussions and have learned a lot so I would like to say thank you for the informative posts. I’ve been camping for a while and have been sewing my own backpacks for about a year now. One thing I love about forums like this is everyone brings their own knowledge to the table and there is always something new to learn. I look forward to many more great discoveries and inventions to learn more about!

Hello and welcome. :camping:
It’s nice to see someone your age interested in the outdoors, interested in building gear, and interested in forums! All of which interests can seem like harking back to days gone by! ;)

I haven’t sewn a full pack, just some dockable pockets, but I am just finishing up my fourth attempt at a half liner nest for a tipi. I hate sewing tents! So easy for a small miscalculation or error to go unnoticed but have big consequences and be very difficult to correct later. I have one more I want to have, and would buy it if I could, but I bought one from Bear Paw Wilderness Design who seem the only game in town, and …. It met neither my functional requirements nor my expectations for build quality. So I am going to have to make what I want myself….but it’s not something I recommend if one wants to maintain sanity! :lmao: Tarps are a much easier place to start.

All the best

Chris

Hello and welcome!
I like making gear :)
I can literally spend a weekend in the woods wearing and using nothing that I have not made myself - from hat to shoes, tarp to stove via all my clothing, hammock, plates and bowls and billycans ... and now I am learning wood turning and Green Woodworking too!
I like making gear!

Lol! I totally get it. It seems like every time I make a bag something is guaranteed to either be changed on the design or I finish it and am unsatisfied with the result and have to make another. I’ve had to accept that it’s the name of the game for handmade gear.

Nothing is as satisfying as having a project turn out as planned!
