Hamilton
So,after umpteen visits directed from searches, then joining but just lurking hoping to find someone local to me,I thought I had better introduce myself.
As you might've guessed I stay in Hamilton (South Lanarkshire, Scotland) moved here nearly ten years ago to be with my good lady.
I have been a lifelong outdoors person with a keen interest in the wilds and wildlife. I grew up in Devon and caught the bug early on walks with Mum n Brother, picking Bluebells,Primroses,Hedgerow Blackberries, etc. Then kiddie missions, climbing trees, hunting for Slow worms,Grass snakes,Bull heads,Stickleback,Eels,Frogs,Toads,Newts.....then Cubs, then first few issues of Combat and Survival Magazine, then Scouts,Ten Tors and Outdoor Pursuits at school.....After study (History of Art,Camberwell, London) moved to Scotland and lived in Glasgow for five years (did a HNC in Habitat Survey with Scottish Wildlife Trust) working in an army surplus shop, went on a Raliegh International expedition to Mongolia.
When the owner wound up the shop moved to the Isle of Bute and started working outdoors full time, self employed- Gardening, chainsaw work and trained as a Dry Stone Waller. Lived there for ten years (minus eighteen months Walling in Switzerland). Moved to Hamilton on my return to the uk.During all this time as an adult, active, real bushcrafting became a background interest. Bringing it to the fore is a big part of becoming more active here.
I also had the thought that knowledge could be exchanged - Dry Stone Walling technique in return for, let's say fire drill making, for example.....
A question to finish - I have a Millbank bag (as yet unused by me) it has a 2003 issue date and I want to post a question regarding the copper based anti mildew treatment they are said to contain. Where would be best to post this?
Many Thanks and Best Wishes to all,
Jamie

Jamie welcome to the forum. thank you for joining us. you will learn lots on here and meet some wonderful people, of that I am certain, x

Hi Jamie, welcome and enjoy.
Probably the best place to post your question, is in the Kit Chatter section.
Hello Kelly, many thanks for the kind and helpful message. I will be doing as you suggest. It confirms what I had thought myself, when I looked at all the subforum headings. I could see a cooking section (which is kind of near, though not really near enough) but not one on water.Nice one!
I wonder if water is a big enough topic for a thread/subforum/section of it's own? Coracles, jumped into my mind suddenly there!
Thanks again for the welcome and the advice.

Welcome to the forum Jamie :)

Good job you're so far away; you're unlikely to see my one and only attempt at drystone walling :)

Oh, and questions about kit - try posting in 'kit chatter' forum.
I'm sure you're wall's a belter!!
It's the stuff you can't see, that's just as important for it's durability...
Thanks for the welcome by the way and for seconding the advice/guidance on where to post my question (which I haven't done yet ,but will be doing now I know).
In my haste to reply I forgot to check your reply for your name, which I should've started this with. Sorry about that. I am bad with names though,if we'd met in person I'd probably of forgotten it already anyhow

Good to have you Jamie and thanks for taking the time to tell us about yourself. It sounds like you've plenty to share and lots of experiences goodjob
Hi Tony, thanks for the welcome. It's reassuring to know I hadn't over done it there,I did wonder whether it were too much. That's something that it also says about me - I can be a bit long winded....
Being an Admin,is something I know precious little about except for a) I presume it's voluntary and b) it involves some degree of I.T knowledge that would be above and beyond mine that c) a forum like this couldn't run as smoothly without....so thanks, for what you do.
Cheers!
