Inspired by this guy:
Helinox Chair. 5
And a happy incident at an Outdoor store in Inverness I have created my own Helinox Chair 0.5. This is an ultra lighters fever dream crossbreed between a Helinox Chair Zero and a Chair One.
A friend snapped a pole of his MSR tent and when we finished the trip at Inverness we stopped by a large outdoor retailer to see if he could get a replacement. The guy behind the desk then pulled out a large cardboard box filled with warrantee bits and bobs from broken tents. Lo, and behold, a MSR section of precisely the same length and type. He even got to take a length of the elastic shock cord, which was cut for the temporary repair.
I, sidling in the background, spotted a snapped Helinox frame from what turned out to be a Chair Zero in the box and asked if I could have the seat portion. It was added to the pile and all generously gifted to us to repair our gear.
The basics of the YouTube video are that if you take the frame of the One you get a taller frame height and stronger frame and, combined with the lighter Chair Zero seat, you get a smaller pack size and lighter package.
Original packed weight:
Chair. 5 weight
I'm not a weight concerned tripper but it's a bit of fun and is definately a smaller package. If I add the Vibram ball feet it won't fit into the smaller Chair Zero pouch and that packed weight comes to:
