In the woods if possible.
Are they any good?

Not looking for absolutely top of the range, but is it worth a blast at £70?

What sort of pics can you expect? ...

I bought one of these for the wife for her birthday last year and I've been rather impressed with it for the money. She knows a lot more about it than I do, apparently it has a few quirks, but it does the job well.

Here are a few mostly taken in the garden this month. Note that they were taken with the infra-red at night so they're monochrome.
Daytime pictures are colour, we have taken a few but it was only to set it up last year and the wife seems to have hidden them somwhere. :(
I'd say the resolution is about VGA, if that means anything to you, which is poor compared to say any recent mobile 'phone but adequate for the job it has to do for us.
The one of the rats was taken last year but it has the date stamp wrong - I gather that setting the date was quirky and part of the learning curve.

Heard good comments about these too, and also to look out for the raised Ltl Acorn logo at face bottom of unit to signify a non fake copy.
Acorn do various models too, including one which texts you when the shutter has been triggered!

A friend of mine likes his Maplins cam

Another friend recommends this for more money

Finally, I've been told to look at the Spypoint range if money is not an issue

I'd better get google reviewing ...

Keep in mind local regulations. I've seen those sold here too, but you can't really use them since you aren't allowed to make video/pictures of public places. They can only be legally used on private property here, with no view of a public place, which tends to restrict the usefulness a bit.

I'll use it when I'm out and about and across the road on the farmers land as I've been curious for years what else is crawling around at night
