The local haws and elderberries seem a bit on the dull side now rather than shiny.

Does this mean they're no longer good for picking?

Eh, depends.
So long as they're not mouldy then you can still use them. Sometimes they change their tastes though. The haws are often sweeter, while the elders lose any tangy taste.
Try them and see :D
