Hammock Tripod Bracket Thingy Needed

Afternoon all,

I have a hammock hanging in garden (DD Frontline XL to be precise). The one end is bomber on the neighbours tree. The other end is less convincing. What I'd like is a metal bracket to join all three pieces of the 'frame' in a triangular teepee type fashion. And be able to take away the backup rope to the old fence post. It needs to be portable, no heavy weights or digging so I'm thinking it's all about the way the wood is positioned and secured at the top end where they meet.

I must say it works as is and has had dog, baby and I on it at same time. My eldest has been using it as aswing and Ive slept in it so I know it is pretty solid but I just feel a big chunk of metal would be more reliable over time.

Anyone have any suggestions.

How about a gate hinge but instead of drilling into the wood with screws, drill all the way though and put some M8 ready rod with washers and bolts either end, so when you disassemble it you''re not rescrewing into old screw holes.

Alternatively get some webbing and tie a Jury Mast Knot (ABOK 1167) it'll look a bit smarter and if properly tied will be bomb-proof.

That's an idea.

I never tried one of those but I did try a double alpine butterfly and fig 8 'bunnies ears' - and that's how it was tied before I put the bolt through it this morning.

I have had another idea now though. If I can fashion a bracket with say an angle the same as the slope of the legs then I could attach it to the back leg that is currently held with the webbing strap - I'm sure that makes more sense in my brain than it does yours right now

This is interesting because since one of our trees has died off I would need a similar soloution.

have you checked out pinterest? A quick search came up with quite a few ideas, maybe something can be borrowed from them
