Well I eventually got round to it with a wee bitty hazel. I've no idea why I was so fascinated by these pegs but they are great fun to make.

I used condensed milk tin for the metal band (which is apparently traditional) 13mm panel pins and my carving knife.

I made a small stab in the peg and inserted the start of the metal band. One and a half turns and then nailed in place. Split at right angle to the pin.

I use these "Dolly pegs", as we used to call them, all the time. My mum wouldn't have the springy things near her. I have to admit though that I bought my last lot from the 'bay, and they're not a patch on your hand made jobbies; I love 'em, nice work :)
