Had someone try a scam on me tonight for a car I'm selling, luckily a
bit of research turned up this link:
http://blog.gumtree.com/paypal-scam-alert/ It's worth a read as there
are several names/people trying this on for products from cars to
mobiles to wedding dresses.

Feel free to pass this on as it's worth everyone being aware that
might be selling on Gumtree and/or other sites.

Matt

Thank you for the warning/heads up
i like your last email :)

Cheers :) If I'd been thinking I'd have gone one step further and got their paypal address first, ah well.

I thought the same as you initially however I've recently bought a van on paypal (admittedly to a friend) and it was convenient, paypal payments usually clear straight away (I think), what it seems like they do is pay a value of £0.00 into your account and then say that paypal are holidng the rest pending receipt of goods (paypal don't hold payments). What really got me though was that they didn't try and knock me down further and hadn't seen the vehicle.
