Hi all. Just a recipe suggestion. I'm a keen jam maker when the autumn fruits start up. Just got my first batch of plums of the year.
Anyway, I notice greengages have started appearing in the shops. Still just Spanish ones so far, but the cheaper (and nicer) British ones won't be far behind.
So, if anyone is thinking of making a bit of greengage jam this year, try adding some star anise to the fruit when it is stewing, before you add the sugar. I did this last year and it was amazing. Normally I like to give my jars of jam to friends, bu I guarded each one of those greengage and anise jars jealously. Far too nice to give away.
Try it. You might like it.
