Good Investment?

I recently purchased a Schrade Old Timer - exactly like this

It is in brand new condition with the box and warranty (which seems rather redundant now that they have closed down) and I picked it up fro $50 New Zealand dollars, which is about 25 - 30USD and was wondering if you all thought this was a good investment to keep locked away all greased up for a few years and then sell it, seeing as though the factory has closed down now and no, I am not trying to sell it now.

i wouldnt suggest you lock it away, i doubt it will ever make you rich as an investment, use it and you will get your $50 worth or sell it and but something you can use! I am getting one a lot like it for christmas which im looking forward to! ;)

as a side note, they havent closed down technicaly as knives are still made under the name but they are not made in the same place by the same people who built up the scrade name any more, and im told the quality of the newer ones is not a touch on the old ones.

Check your box - If it has "Taylor Brands LLC" on the side it is one of the new ones made in China I believe - the Schrade Name is now owned by taylor brands. I have one of these and am very pleased with it. The quality is comparably with the Case Seahorse I got at the same time. Finish is not quate as good but the blades were sharpened better and more evenly. All in all for the price I paid I was very pleased for a small utility User.

Unfortunately, unlike Wilkinson sword and the short run of Woodlores they made before production ended, Schrade made millions of knives of all kinds and there is still I understand a lot of brand new unsold inventory in all sorts of retailers and warehouses. So in terms of rarity, its quite common and won't ever be worth a great deal except as a user. But the collectors market is very hard to predict so who knows!

Yeah, it hasnt got taylor brands anywhere on the box, it an old box.

I mainly bought because I had just read the schrade had closed down, then the very next morning I saw one in a window, so I thought that it may be worth a bit in the future, and for $50 why not, :D , its a nice looking one aswell.
