Hi there everyone.

I plan on making my own friction folder, and have a couple of questions for those that have made them or studied them.

I plan on using this knife for as much as I can, It will not be a scandi, but most likely a flat grind or convex. Not sure on profile, either standard drop point design or wharncliffe (eventually both)

1) Do you use washers between the blade and handle, or do I just use some thin stuff and pin, remove thin stuff.

2) Will wood be fine for handle and spacer? I don't have anything I can use (steel) for liners, and I don't want to use synthetic materials.

3) If I drill the blade (pivot and stop pin recess) like the following link, will the knife stay shut in my pocket?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but until then,

thanks

You dont need washers, but they work better if you do and it prevents wear on the scales. Phospher bronze washers are thinnest and best for the job.
The spacers can be made from wood with no problems. If you set the tension on the blade a little tighter it wont open in your pocket. As a friction folder it will have a bit of metal sticking up which could make it uncomfortable to carry.
