How's your free tree getting on ?

This is Bruce the spruce (except he's a Scots Pine)

He's well hard and spent his first winter out in the Yorkshire cold, thriving he is :)

When he's a bit older I'm going to take him back to his homeland, somewhere with a nice view across the west coast no doubt.

(Anyone know how to take a "cutting" from a tree ? I'd like to have a go at a few more if it's easy enough)

My Little Oak looked like it died, I planted it in the garden but moved it to a tub. It's about 10" now. Needs planting where it can grow, my garden is too small. Have permission to plant it at a reserve, but is it the right time to do it.

my pine is in a pot and is going well:) it has suddenly put on growth over the last two months. i will try and get a picture for tomorow.

cuttings can be easy or imposable depending on the species. for example for most willows you can just stuff a green twig in some fairly damp ground in winter and it will sprout leaves and root itself in spring. (i first found this when an old fishing rod rest i made grew leaves! lol)
pines and most other conifors on the other hand are very difficult and require special care, really not worth the hassel.
