Folding Bow Saw project

I saw a YouTube clip showing a guy using a folding bow saw made by I think Browning. I though it was pretty cool and wanted one but one a bit larger than the one available in the UK.

I ordered some inch Aluminium box section from EBay for £12 for a 1200mm length. The blade is a cheap one at £3.99 and the rest of the bits I had. It took around 3 hours to make.

The blade fits inside the main bar and has room for several. I show it in the pic poking out a bit but when fully in the two black screws hold it in place. I tried one first but the blade rattled so added another screw.

I have not tested it yet and will head off to the woods tomorrow and report back but it feels sturdy so should work. Hope this inspires others to have a go?

Or take down small Sequoias cutting from both sides.

Nice job AATP, look forward to your testing report but I'll bet it will be a good one (the blade shown is for green wood so if it is the only blade you have cutting dry standing won't be as quick, but you probably already know that)

Ta for the blade advice, no I didn't really know it was a green blade. I will get another for dryer wood.

I was out yesterday log hunting and used a wooden frame saw I made for the first time and ended up whacking myself in the eye while sawing 'cos it was so tall

Cool, I almost deleted that part before posting The dry blade has a more regular tooth shape (the 51 pattern has 3 teeth then a small gullet), the green one (patt 23) has those gullets either side of a pair of clearing teeth to help clear wet sawdust that clogs the blade up, making for hard work. Bahco state that the 51 can cut green wood but from experience it serves better for dry or part seasoned wood.
Hopefully the info will save some sweat and tears...blood on the other hand is down to how you use it....

Not sure if this design has been patented by Browning? I will look into it and if not make some saleable ones up, probably in the new year though? That is if my prototype stands up to some abuse tomorrow!

I can't see your saw falling to bits any time soon mate. I'd say its at least twice as robust as my bob destroud saw
And that's pretty strong for what it is

I don't think this has a patent. I did find a Sawvivor pocket saw Patent number: 5794345

but it's not for this style saw!

Just a suggestion don't wanna take anything away from a really good peice of work.couuld a handle be fitted too the other side so a bit of tande sawing could be done.that would alter the patent too?

That's an idea, may work well with the larger length blade that's available? Now you have me thinking of an extendable main shaft to accept all the different blades available!!
I can't find a patent as of yet so if anyone has the Sawvivor can you let me know if it has one stamped on it please?
