Flint and steel?

Are there and common household/workshop items made from carbon steel?

It's just that I'd like to see what using a flint and steel's like, using my own kit.

I've just bought a ferro rod, but it seems that if you're able to use a flint and steel, you're in a different league!

Yes, try an old metalwork file.

Or try an old hacksaw blade broken up into a 2 or 3 inch piece

Ah! My firesteel came with a striker made from a hacksaw blade!
Hopefully that'll work...
If not, I'll cannibalise one of my dad's hacksaws
