hmm, a bit over engineered tbh. back when i worked for an engineering firm we suddenly had alot of lemonade to drink :D
we had to shift alot of newts from the proposed manchester airport runway area (its now all built) so the best way to catch em was thus:
chop the top off a 2l pop bottle 1" below where it starts to taper to the spout.
invert and then staple into the bottle, be sure to have removed the cap.
pierce through the bottle at the bottom so you can peg it down.
half submerge in pond of choice and await newty friends.

****DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME****

we were doing it officially and licensed, remember newts are an endangered species in this country so don't be doing this yourselves. it may however be modified to allow the catching of small fish.
