First wood spirit attempt.

Well I got fed up thinking about doing this, and also inspired by another members first attempt, the carving knives came out tonight.


I can see this becoming addictive as it was great fun. Relatively easy to do but once I looked at pictures on the web, I can see I'm a long way off some carvers.

Thats good! that would be a nice carving on a walking stick. Have you coated it with something?

Excellent stuff and good for you just getting on with it, I've had this article (by Woodspirits) on carving wood spirits printed out for a few years waiting for me to get around to it

Thanks folks. Just the good old walnut oil finish.

I can see the walking stick idea being nice but considerably more difficult. Quite a different challenge I felt as left and right side cuts were really different so with a 4' stick it would be fine and easy one side but 4' waving about on the other side (if you see what I mean)

I just used my 2 slyod carvers. I have a convex bevel on them but that doesn't seem the right angle for the smaller work.
