After a lot of work, I finally finished my first three knives from this thread.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1090264-My-Knife-Making-Journey-Advice-Would-Be-Greatly-Appreciated

I can't really call one or another my first knife as I worked on them in a single batch but the rosewood handled one was my first one cut out.

I used my 1 x 30 belt sander for shaping the blade, doing the bevels, the handles, and many other things. I also used a file and sandpaper to smoothen things out.

The kydex sheaths are also my first try with making a sheath.

Here they are!

Knife #1

Steel: 1084 from Aldo

Handle material: Bocote

Blade length: 3.25"

Handle length: 4"

Overall length: 7.25"

The handles on all of them are fully contoured. I made sure not to get "blocky handle syndrome" ;)

Sorry for the overload of pictures, I'm just very proud of them.

Any questions, comments, or critics would be greatly appreciated. :)

Wow they're stunning, and a seriously impressive first effort too! Really like the blade shape of the second one, unusual yet I really like it. And an impressive job on the kitchen knife, bit of a monster that, and stunning handle on that one - very nice work there :)

You are right to be proud of them. For first efforts they are superb.

There will be a few people on here looking at their own first efforts and really taking a dislike to you now :D

Great work.

The kitchen knife looks as though it'd make a great slicer/carver, looks cool; I'm not a fan of the "deep blade" knife as in the first two, but there's no denying the workmanship. Astonishingly good for your first attempt.

Hi everyone,
another vote for the second one here. a job well done for your first knifes. Is your belt sander a clarke type one? If so, how do you find it for sanding metal. I have a few old Sheffield made files to try to make into knifes, and was thinking about one of them small sanders.
regards Chris.

My belt sander is a Harbour Freight 1x30. I'm not sure if it's the same type that you're talking about but I'm in the US.

Thanks everybody!

Erdbeereis, Magnificent truly something to be well proud of, and I love the amount of, and the detail in the photo's.
I takes some guts to put pics up that give that amount of detail, as every little mistake could be seen. and I have done my very best and did I see a tiny gap on the kitchen knife handle?
Cause if I did I spotted the one and only detail that was not absolutely perfect, great job mate.
Would buy a knife of you any time of the week ^^

Yours sincerely Ruud

Thanks so much for your comments! I don't think that's a gap on the kitchen knife, maybe just a bit of epoxy. There are quite a few things that you couldn't see in the pics, mainly superglue on the rosewood one and around where the handle meets the blade where your finger goes is a bit rough because I don't have anything to smooth it out right now. ;)
