First ever goshawk

Spotted my first goshawk yesterday while out in the woods with the kids. Not a sight I will forget in a hurry. Seeing something that big flying silently through a pretty dense woodland is truly awesome. Shame it's taken me over 40 years to see one, but now I know where it lives, I hope to see more of it.

My first goshawk was this year too. Wonderful birds.

The goshawk was in a tree that I got close to whilst I was chasing a butterfly (really), and it took off when I was about 10 feet away. Amazing

The goshawk was silent, but the woodland exploded with hundreds of small bird alarm calls!

For the last 5 years, we have a breeding pair very close to home.
Sadly, the the mainly coniferous plantation is due for cutting in the near future
