Also, and it's only my personal opinion, but i'd say i'd be more scared of someone being over confident that they can patch up a would using nothing but what is growing around them instead of having a first aid kit. Thats fine if you are totaly clued up in that area, but potentialy dangerous if you are not.

Knowledge of natural first aid remedies is great, but don't take risks when you can just take a decent first aid kit!

Boosh.

Agree completely with that. Most field remedies need preparation and they are not always (if ever) just sitting there within arms reach. So, if you have to prepare a remedy, say dried powdered yarrow root, you may just as well bring a sterile, purpose designed, treatment. Preparation is preparation whether its natural remidies or from a specialist supplier. I have never, for example, been within a country mile of a birch polypore when ive cut myself with a knife in the woods. Ever. And would question the state of everything by the time I'd got a strip off one to dress a sliced finger if I ever did.

Cheers

In my earlier post I didnt mean for you to use wild plants and stuff , what I maybe didnt make clear was, carry a good first aid kit but know how to get the best from it .
if you feel you will some day need a large field dressing carry one, but be ready to improvise if you dont have one, then you could use a panty liner (with wings). Imagine being a casualty , trusting you life to someone (severed femoral artery ) and they come up with a disposable nappy mmmm, elastoplast will pul the edges of a large cut together,
please remember first aid is just thatfirst-aid
please take care and I hope you never need any of above

thats not First aid that Bush Medicne which is totally differnt

First aid in this case se above injuries you need to get a casualty to hospital ASAP

if severe bleeding and no first aid kit then the old dog blanket coverd in oil etc in the back of the car and a seat belt Could save a life. while you wait for or get to the Emergancy services and will be better than a totally inadiquate small sterile dressing

Having read some of the replies since my earlier post an incident comes to mind when a colleague used a roll of cling film to stop a messy bleeder, works really well, and can apply a lot of pressure whilst holding in all sorts of useful stuff.
