Firesteel w/ sheath question...

Hello all!
After looking around here quite some time I decided to join after seeing how awesome this place was. I have a question for all those who make their own sheaths...I am currently making my own for a knife I made and want to put a firesteel tube on the sheath up near the top, my question was does one substitute the leather for the tube as a welt in that place or just put it in their overtop a welt? Hope that makes sense...thanks

I think the normal practice is to scive both the welt and the fire steel leather to about half it's normal thickness. That way both can sit next to eachother without an unsightly bump!
