Fiebings have discontinued edge dye

I just heard from LePrevo that Fiebings are no longer making edge dye and that the recommended replacement is Edge Kote. Seems like may have I got the last remaining bottle from LePrevo last week.

Although I do sometimes use Edge Kote, I don’t like the finish and prefer edge dye, with gum tragacanth for burnishing. The edge dye works really well for me.

I was wondering what others use for their edge dyeing.

I guess standard dye would work, though there must have been a reason why there was a specific edge dye.

When I spoke to Tandy (or LePrevo) last year I was told that the oil based dyes were going to be stopped, not sure if this is the case here or whether it was true.

I use Dylon leather colours successfully as a budget option.

I'd be interested to know why there is specific product for the edges too. I suspect that's it to make you spend more!
