I bought one of these today; Faithful tools hatchet. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...crosoft:*:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ADBF_en-GB&um=1

Has anyone got any experience with it? Any good, or have I just wasted my money? I am hopeing to get a Gransfors wildlife hatchet for my birthday in a few months but until then thought I would get some practice in with this first. I won't get to use it until next week so was planning on sharpening it. Has anyone got any good links for this that they could help me out with?

Thanks

Edit: Forgot to mention that I have no interest in carving, its just for preparing and spliting wood for fires. I have a laplander saw too.

I used to use one of them.
I remember it didn't come that sharp, but once sharpened up it took a very keen edge and held it for a long time. Which is what you want really.
But if all you're going to do is split wood then you can't go wrong. And why would you want to spend (or get someone else to spend) all that money on a GB if all you're going to do with it is split wood!?
The only modifications I made to it was to take the blue paint off with paint stripping and sand off the varnish on the handle so it doesn't slip in the hand.
There's nothing wrong with those Faithful hatchets - they hold a good edge and can be used for carving and trimming just fine.

Thanks for the responses lads. Derulz, that is exactly what I had in mind for the axe. I plan on stripping the paint off the blade, sanding the varnish, staining the wood with a dark stain/oil (no idea what product to use though). Also was thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom for a small lanyard.
