My sleeping bag felt damp on the underside after a night in the mud with my old ex Army bivi.
(The kip was fine)

Is Fabsil on Gortex a positive, a negative or a waste of effort?
(Fabsil is what I’ve got!)

Goretex is supposed to be vapour permeable so I'd have thought Fabsil would possibly ruin that.

Having said that it I don't think it wouldn't do much harm to treat just the underside of your bivi bag with it.

Possibly due to dirt build up blacking the pores?

Wash it first, don’t use any biological products (Nikwax wash is ideal), rinse really well, more than once would be ideal, and then treat, such as Nikwax as birchwood mentioned.

Put the washer on a cycle with no detergent in it before washing the bivi to clean out any residue of conventional detergent from the machine itself
