i am indeed off to borneo however i am an obsessive mountaineer and will be hitting some 3-4000mtr peaks whilst im running around the rest of indonesia and whilst it may or may not be snowing they are waterproof/windproof/damn warm! they really dont weigh very much.... so id rather take those than warm trousers AND waterproof trousers etc. they wont get used in the rainforest thats for sure...

What modifications have you done to the Vulcan?

o minor things. ive just replaced all of the zip ties with paracord instead of the rubbish that comes with it. ive also cut off all major buckles and replaced them with the ones off my issue bergen (which was a nuisance as berghaus somehow felt the need to attach the end of all straps to another strap instead of having them free hanging so ive def ruined the warrenty) and ive replaced the zip locks on the draw cords with the issue ones as well. i really need things to last. i will be in the jungle for six months with zero opportunity for a new bag, if something breaks then i will have to ducttape/zip tie/paracord my way out of it for the rest of the trip, you can definitely tell that these are now made in china. I was actually very disappointed with the fact that they have chunky bad bottom plce zips on the sides for the issue rocket pouches but the lid pocket and the bottom pocket has tiny little civi zips which are bound to break... makes no sense... sigh....

some add ons have been made to the bergen as well, though not permanent, i think they are extremely useful!

P6060034.JPG

Lowe Pro pouch, on the rear strap of the waist harness and also vertically clipped onto the shoulder strap adjustment strap. Waterproof note paper, pencil, china graph pencil and first aid memoir.

P6060033.JPG

Really quite chuffed with this, i worked out you cold unthread the tactikka (tikka with a red flip filter and switch instead of button) and then i threaded it onto the chest strap. really nice and handy emergency light, doesnt weigh anything!

P6060031.JPG

gerber suspension, threaded in the same place as the lowe pro but on the right hand side instead.

P6060032.JPG

HH pouch, threaded vertically on my right shoulder strap, containing my compass and pacing beads. not the best fit in the world but better than just having the thing swinging around anyway!
