It’s easy enough to find pockets for my essentials if I’m wearing 5.11 or Helikon Urbans, but recently it’s been cold and my old Kiwi Craghoppers and Ridgeline Explorers have hopeless pockets. It’s also a great time of year to lose anything clipped due to a woolly jumper hooking it out.

I always carry a knife, torch, pencil or pen, small pad or some paper, wallet, loose change. Loose change is in front left pocket. Knife, torch and card wallet in front right. Been looking for a simple slip and it’s been a pain. Even with this simple Viperade the UKPK is a tight fit, but it’s kind of solved the problem. I also bought an Etsy pouch with pockets for camping or when I don’t mind showing I have a knife with me.

The usual stuff that goes in. It was the grey anodising and copper bezel of the little Emisar D3AA torch that prompted this quest, it’s just too nice to get scratched up.

3 Viperade, I kept only the slip. It’s exactly the same size as the orange and grey Maratac card wallets and both sit together in a pocket without being too bulky.

Perfect fit for these two and a pencil, but the knife is a locker so it’s not always welcome.

Typical combos. See how wide the UKPK is? I’m not understanding why the pockets aren’t made a little wider, seeing as it’s the clip that holds them in. And nobody but nobody is using elastic except Maxpedition on the inside of their organiser pouches. All the pouches I looked at had pockets that wouldn’t take an AA torch unless it’s maybe a real slim one like a Maratac.

Pouch on the right is a Cipher Wilderness from Etsy, nice thing. On the other side is a central zip for easy access.

Cramming the UKPK in.

I absolutely agree about Craghppers (predictive wrote Crappier). My market stall Caribou nine pocket trousers are stronger, the zips are vastly better and the pockets significantly bigger. They have outlasted two pairs of Craghoppers by years.

Sometimes I want to carry something that will damage them - like my secateurs - and for that I allways keep a pocket liner in one back pocket. This gives me a choice. I can hang it from my belt inside the bum pocket or swing it from my belt as an extra pocket.

It’s home made.
It’s not beautiful.
It’s adequate.

Nothing from Skinthsolutions work?

ChatGPT thinks a M7 toollet fits a UKPK and AA flashlight.

The Spyderco UKPK should fit in the Skinth Solutions M7 Toollet, but it may be a tight fit depending on the exact configuration. The M7 Toollet is designed for compact multi-tools and small flashlights, so let's break it down:

Spyderco UKPK Dimensions:

  • Closed Length: ~3.5 inches (89mm)
  • Width (including clip): ~1.2 inches (30mm)
Skinth M7 Toollet Dimensions:
  • Slot Widths: ~1.5 inches each (can stretch slightly)
  • Depth: About 4 inches
Fitment Notes:

✅ The UKPK should fit in one slot, though it may be snug.
✅ The AA flashlight (like a ThruNite Archer or Fenix LD12) should fit well in the second slot.
⚠️ If the UKPK’s pocket clip is attached, it might be a tight squeeze. You may need to remove the clip for a smoother fit.

If you're concerned about fitment, you could consider the Skinth L-Shield, which has slightly roomier compartments.

Would you like recommendations for slightly larger pouches just in case?

It is, first edition with the rubber clicky. They come with crappy e-switches now, the click on that tailcap is so loud and solid there’s no way you could call it tactical :D

I looked at Skinth, the M7 looked to be a good solution with an assortment of slot sizes, but was out of stock. The UKPK does fit ok with the Lumintop, and the Hanklight does fit with a smaller knife. I’m ok with the compromise, I bought about 5 Viperades and the Etsy pouch. After a quick glance at the Viperades I knew the slip was the keeper as I don’t want to pull a knife out every time I need to pay for something.image.jpgimage.jpg

Did see a review of a new Topo Designs pouch few weeks ago. Square, 3.5"x3.5"x1"

Looks about right for my needs, lighter, AA angle light and a SAK with space to spare. Waiting for it to appear in UK stores.

I am going all medieval in my dotage, I recently fashioned myself a big leather belt pouch out of some leather I had lying around. Big enough to handle all my modern junk whilst pretending to adhere to the simple life :) How Leif Ericson ever got to Greenland without his smartphone and satnav is beyond me.
