Hi, I'm hoping some of you well traveled, well informed individuals could help me on a seach for eco-communities/eco villages that I intend to visit, as I am looking to visit a number of differnet sites with the view to possibly becoming part of one.

If anyone could reccomend a place or if indeed they have been, or are on one of these projects I would love to hear about it. Very interested in communities in UK but abroad aswell, eg Spain, Norway, France etc even Canada etc...

Thanks for support.

Firstly, welcome to the forum. Why not join the conversations and tell us a little more about youself ?

That's really tthe reason that you may find people a little reluctant to freely hand out such information. Most of the people living in such places are friends. I'm very fond of those I know of, many of them have young children, many of them survive on an incredibly limited budget. and I don't know you well enough to introduce you to them after one post on an internet forum.
Introductions are generally a face to face, who knows you / who you know, kind of thing.

This isn't a public slap down, it's a quiet dose of reality.

There are many eco villages which are confident enough to have on line websites though, links to them are easily found.
You could perhaps make a start there, maybe as volunteer labour, and if they are happy to introduce you other people within their friends.......

Unless you are cash rich forget the Moray Firth. Very commercialised.

Talamh is not so much an eco village as a housing co-op, but it might be a very good place to start, Visit on an event day or volunteer to help work to get ready and clear up from one.

The centre for alternative technology runs excellent courses and they have good contacts too.

Basically I'd advise getting yourself involved with the wide community that is there before you start asking for addresses.

cheers,
Toddy

Other than the centre of alternative technology I have no idea but am interested in the subject so am tagging onto this thread.

There is a bloke I know who lives off grid in Cumbria and also goes round the festivals selling little tin boats when he's away from home.
