I stumbbled upon a copy of Camp Craft by Warren H. Miller from 1915. I haven't read much of it, just skimmed through it, but I thought it would be of interest to some folks.

Some bits of the writting are pretty good and you can tell about the people who wrote it and obviously there was less PC in what could be said.
A good example from page 252
"It was lucky that the cook was a large, fat man with choleric blue eyes, for too often the chef is only a little, measly, mild-mannered individual, whose only reason for going into the woods is an abiding love of outdoor life, and so the others impose on his good nature, forgetting that he may be as keen a hunter and as ardent a fisherman as any of the rest."
"And the fourth is D'Artagnan--le chef! To begin with he must be a poet and an artist - and, further more he must know how to cook. There is nothing to it. More good jobs are spoiled by too much fire than anything else. It is the application to the utensil of the heat that proves the master."
Love this one though......
"As soon as one moves the camp-fire inside of the tent, a new variety of conditions arises."
Like to see people try that these days.
