I recently bought British Army DPM Gaiters, I think the younger model.

There are 6 grommets, 3 on each side of each gaiter, that are obviously meant to pull a cord through that goes under the sole.

Are 4 grommets meant as a spare?
Is that for adjustments?
Do you use all 6 with special knots in order to lower the tension on the single grommet?

What was taught in the British army about these?

Thank you very much!

I have no idea how to post photos here.
There are simply 3 little grommets in line at each side of the gaiter.

Do you set one cord between both sides or do you use two cords and put them together above the foot, approximately like it was done with the steel string version?
