Discovered: great emergency tinder.

Brasso wadding! It's basically just easily teased cotton wool absolutely packed with metal polish. It catches a spark easier than anything I've ever seen, the polish makes it waterproof, and at a fiver for a fair sized tin it's bretty darned good on the value side (say compared with the usual 'emergeny tinder' you see inthe shops, whiere you get a third of the tinder for 2.50).

Good one. I'd wonder about the toxicity of the fumes though. May be worth checking into.
