This morning, on Radio 4 1100-1130( ) I just happened to be half-listening!

Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaughs work, teaching english language to a Bonobo ape(?)..by the name of Kanzi.

Whatever the ins and outs of such an undertaking, I am almost sure I heard reference to the ape actually " gathering pine needles", when being," very interested in the human activity of outdoor firemaking."

Didn,t I take my kids to see a Disney animated film about such, years ago.
"What I desire , is man,s red fire...."

Aaaaand, not only that , this ape has got a computer keyboard!

I suppose it's the ultimate bushcrafter They even sleep in tree nests (hammocks come next! )
The pity is that humanity doesn't deal well with the great apes, and certainly not well with those who have been *humanized* by long term contact.

But I was also struck by 4 simultaneous thoughts, as I listened.

" Just how long ago was it, that anthropoids got into firemaking"

"Nay Lad, your lugs need cleaning"

"Cheez, how long before he signs up for BCUK"

".....probably better at spelling"
