I'm thinking of making a gas burner attachment for my crusader cooker.
Two weeks on Salisbury plain with greenheat get for cooking really opened my eyes and I do not think it is adequate apart from the odd emergency brew up.

Looking at the crusader cooker I think there is enough room for a gas burner if I find one small enough.

does anyone know if this has been done already ?

I am also intending togo down the meths photon type route also

A guy I work with has just bought a Trangia and loves it. He started preaching to me how great it was and I told him that I'd been using one for years!! That was it, we had a huge discussion as to how great the trangia type cooking unit is, its lack of moving or intricate parts, doesn't need pressurizing, continues to work well at altitude, etc. He is very happy that he bought it and I told him to add a bit of water to his fuel to stop sooting on his pots and pans.

The only thing that puzzles me is why they changed the bottom section of the windshield. My dad can put his frying pan under his wind shield for when he is using the cooker on boggy ground or whatever, but they don't fit anymore. I would have though this a great idea for when using it in deep snow aswell, as the pan would sit on the surface of the snow due to its surface area.

I'll vouch for the clickstand they're a good bit of kit, I haven't ried one with a metal mug yet though;).

Another suggestion is to make a mini photon stove for the base, it would probably get a brew going but you wouldn't get much more out of it:)

i use a us mug with its stand which you can also fit a standard trianga burner under which works well
the burner fits in my pocket and the mug and stand all fit under the 1 quart bottle in its case and you can still drink from the bottle with out getting it all out
the 1 quart bottle holds a litre if your wondering about it

Thanks for all the quality replies, I am at present collecting odds and ends to make a "photon" type stove

I then intend to do some "benchmarking" tests with it against greenheat gel, hexy and gas.

The gas will not be part of the crusader setup but a seperate ring I have

I think if I could get a burner with a right angle adaptor and tube to connect it to a gas canister that was also small enough to fit in the crusader I'd be hoem and dry and hopefully have a setup I can use similar to the trangia gas adaptor

but its all pie in the sky at the mo !
