Hi Guys, My first try at a Thread. I hope that I get a response as I am fed up trudging around the woods searching for the Cramp Ball fungus. Can anyone tell me if I am wasteing my time looking for it in the Stirling /Trossacks area. There is plenty of Horsehoof fungus if you look around a while ,but I have n't seen any Cramp Ball. I am fairly sure what I am looking for from illustration in R.M,s writings. Is it only to be found further South or am I looking at the wrong trees.?
Must get some advice, so as to be prepared for the next Achray Meet.
Cheers for now Stuart S

Hi Stuart, and welcome here. Not sure if cramp balls are in your area, but I can tell you, if they are, you want to be looking on dead ash trees. They do grow on some other trees too, but more so on ash......

No idea mate. There is stacks down here right now, but you will need dead or fallen Ash trees for it - have you got many of them?

Just looked on a tree disease book and they grow on Ash and Birch. Hope this helps, if you need more, I'll quote you from the book...
